Invergordon Sky - Colour & Mono

I have reason to travel to Yarrawonga in northeast Victoria on the Murray River regularly, and while the landscape on the flood plains is flat, the skies can make up for the lack of dramatic scenery, sometimes providing a quieter, more contemplative environment. This is near Invergordon - but it could be almost anywhere.

Just for interest, I tried a desaturated colour version and monochrome. The weak saturation appeals to me, although it can look gimmicky. Perhaps the appeal is in its contrast to all the highly saturated images I see everywhere.

I do super enjoy skies like that. It's interesting how black and white transforms my perception of the sky, moving it from a dose of reality to an idea.

Hi Chris!

The sky appears to squeeze the landscape heavily as you show it. That gives the bnw version a bit more impact as it becomes more abstract compared to the color version.

Interesting observation about the squeezing. You're right!

For me, Colour image. With a little more vibrancy (not saturation).

A Very Challenging Photo

Sometimes a bit of luck is all you need.

When/Where: On August 7, 2026 at the Abbotsford International Airshow during the Friday afternoon/evening Twilight Show.

Tiny Visitor

I was recently back in the woods trying to take some wildlife photos. Sadly, I barely came across any birds that day and whenever I did, they were gone before I could even focus on them.
