Ferns and Ross Creek, Montana

I love this area. It feels so ancient and untouched. The Red Cedars in this area are huge, maybe the largest trees in the US outside of the Giant Redwoods on the West Coast. Atmospheric conditions that day were partly cloudy. As watched this scene openings in the clouds were allowing sunlight to penetrate the canopy in patches. I knew that if I watched this scene long enough that eventually the sun broke through the clouds and spotlighted this spot. Eureka! The camera was set up, composition established and exposure determined. I got one exposure before the spotlight moved to a different place, but I had the exposure. I used a Canon 6D with a Canon 24-105L lens. It was captured in camera RAW and processed using Photoshop.
