Making Compelling Landscape Photo Compositions With a Wide Angle Lens

When it comes to landscape photography, the wide angle lens is the most common tool of choice. And while they are great for the genre, they come with their own set of challenges that can make it quite tricky to come home with compelling images. This great video tutorial follows an experienced photographer as he discusses both how to create wide angle compositions and how to deal with bad weather.

Coming to you from Dylan Goldby, this helpful video tutorial follows him as he discusses creating compositions with a wide angle lens and dealing with inclement weather. The tricky thing with a wide angle lens in landscape photography specifically is that you do not have control over the elements of the scene, and creating a balanced composition with so much in the frame is a challenge. The most common mistake photographers make at this point is not including a strong foreground element. Without one, the image will look rather empty and overly flat. Check out how Goldby's use of foreground elements helps to lead your eye into his images. See the video above for the full rundown.
