Coming to you from Jeff Carpenter of Readylight Media in tandem with V-Flat World, this great video tutorial will show you an advanced portrait lighting setup using v-flats and gels. V-flats are a fantastic tool that sometimes get overlooked, which is a shame, because lighting gear is awfully expensive and v-flats are both affordable and highly versatile. They can be used for anything from reflecting light to filling in shadows, to flagging lights, deepening shadows to add more contrast and sculpt facial features, or even filling in as a backdrop. Of course, you can't really use them outdoors because any wind turns them into sails, but whenever you're working indoors, they're great to have on hand. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Carpenter.
