A Comprehensive Comparison of Over 25 Lighting Modifiers

One of the beautiful things about mastering artificial lighting is that you open a huge range of creative options to yourself through the use and arrangement of modifiers. However, there are numerous modifiers available to photographers, and it can be tricky knowing which ones are right for your work. This fantastic video compares over 25 lighting modifiers to show you the way they will render your subjects and help you choose the ones you prefer.

Coming to you from Karl Taylor, this excellent video compares over 25 different lighting modifiers and shows how they render subjects. The choice of modifier is one of the most impactful you can make and affords you tremendous creative latitude to show your subject in a flattering light, create drama, or tell a compelling story. Broncolor's Para 133 is my personal favorite, simply because it is the most versatile modifier I have ever used, allowing you to dial in everything from hard light to soft, flattering light. The 133 size is a real sweet spot for me as well, as it allows for a range of portrait framing but is not too unwieldy to transport and use on location. There are tons of options out there, though, so check out the video above for the full rundown from Taylor.

Para 133? For $3000? Jesus Christ on a stick! How much are they paying you Alex? Maybe I should have applied for that job. Oh well. For that much I'll build my own.

Just buy one…. You’ll never look back.
