Everything You Need to Know About Smart Previews in Lightroom

Modern image files can be large and rather clunky to work with, but Lightroom has a neat feature to make things easier and more versatile: Smart Previews. This awesome video tutorial will show you the ins and outs of Smart Previews, including why they are used and how to take advantage of them for your own work.

Coming to you from Anthony Morganti, this great video tutorial will show you everything you need to know about Smart Previews in Lightroom. Smart Previews allow you to edit photos even when the actual files are not available to your computer. They tend to be much smaller than the originals, typically on the order of about a 95% reduction in size. This allows you to keep all your images on a large, traditional hard drive and carry a small, fast SSD for working on the go. When you connect the drive containing the Smart Previews to your computer again, Lightroom automatically syncs all the changes you have made and applies them to the originals. They are a great way to work, particularly if you are someone who works away from home a lot and doesn't want to carry a huge hard drive. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Morganti.

Wow do I hate video articles!

Is this what is filling up my discs? Lightroom keeps asking for more room where my library is.
