How to Take Advantage of Lightroom's Powerful Filtering Features

Lightroom can be a surprisingly intricate program, and as such, some of its best features can be easily overlooked. Lightroom has some powerful filtering features, and if you are someone with a catalog of images in the tens or even hundreds of thousands of images, you will find it highly beneficial to learn the ins and outs. This fantastic video tutorial will show you everything you need to know.

Coming to you from Anthony Morganti, this excellent video tutorial will show you everything you need to know to take full advantage of Lightroom's filtering capabilities. I find myself using these all the time; it is particularly useful for taking a look at how much I use different camera and lens combinations and for what, which, in turn, allows me to easily see what equipment I can probably afford to sell. What I really love, though, is that you can actually create custom filter presets, making it very easy to integrate the functionality into your workflow. Along with things like smart collections and keywording, it is a powerful tool for navigating large collections of photos. As Morganti mentions, Lightroom does not automatically provide all the search criteria, so you need to be sure to add some relevant metadata, but even the base functionality is rather powerful and quite useful. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Morganti.
