Coit Tower - Light and Shadows - San Francisco - California

400mm · f/9 · 1/200 sec. · ISO 110

My wife and I recently escaped for a weekend in San Francisco with one clear goal: spending time behind the camera, chasing light and moments. I’m excited to share a series of images from the trip here on Fstoppers.

As we continued our photo walk along The Embarcadero, I spotted another of San Francisco's iconic structures, Coit Tower. It too was split between light and shadow. I chose to edit this as a black-and-white to add some dramatic flair to a subject that's often reduced to a simple snapshot.

This 212-foot structure (61.6 m) sits atop Telegraph Hill in Pioneer Park. Completed in 1933, Coit Tower features frescoes painted by 25 artists on the walls of its first two floors in 1934. Visitors can ride the elevator to the observation level for 360-degree views of the city, bay, and bridges.
