Deadvlei is a white clay pan surrounded by some of the tallest sand dunes on Earth. The famous camel thorn trees are believed to be around 600–900 years old. Because the desert climate is extremely dry, the trees never fully decomposed, leaving behind the striking black silhouettes that make Deadvlei so iconic today. Visiting this area provided an excellent opportunity to use compose the scene based upon my vision and feelings. I found it to be uncanny.
