Illuminating the South

19mm · f/6.3 · 1/3s · ISO 200

The Milky Way in the Southern Hemisphere has a peculiarity with respect to what we are accustomed to this is the reverse of how we usually see it in the North. One of the places I wanted to photograph during the night was the Nugget Point lighthouse, maybe one of the best known on the island.
Here I leave what was a beautiful night watching the stars.

I'm learning about the Milky Way and shooting stills of it. This is beautiful! What's the large white light behind the lighthouse? I'm not clear what we're seeing with regard to ambient light.
