Side by side Comparison of iPhone's 4S & Canon 5D Mark II's Video

Likely not the first and definitely not going to be the last, this clip shows the video quality of iPhone's new 4S in tandem with Canon's 5D Mark II. Sadly there is no sound in this video and I would've liked to have seen some close ups of people in this comparison but it's interesting enough for a quick look. I love shooting with all sorts of cameras and have no doubt the latest iPhone will be worth the upgrade for the camera alone. In fact I was at the 5th Ave Apple Store on friday with one in hand, at the check out, when they asked, "What are the last four digits of your social security number?" Sadly being a shiny new American resident, I didn't know and had to walk away empty handed. Maybe I'll go back today. Wish me luck.

Redditors Photoshop Baby Photo For Grieving Parents

Reddit has become a place where people have truly come together to help make a difference in others lives. Recently, a grieving father, Nathen Steffel, posted a simple request to have a picture photoshopped which resulted in a response that was more than what he expected. His daughter, Sophia, passed away Thursday after a long battle in the children's hospital. All he wanted was an image of her without tubes because he never had the chance to take one.

How I Shot This Hair Shoot

Hair photography can be a pain to shoot. Having a good hair stylist is incredibly important to make sure you don’t end up spending more time than you should behind the desk for the retouching. When it comes to hair, you’ll already have to spend more time than you’ll like.

Norman Reedus & Al Wertheimer on "Capture"

Viewers of "The Walking Dead" are no strangers to Norman Reedus, but few may be aware that Reedus is an accomplished photographer. In this episode of Mark Seliger's "Capture," Reedus joins Al Wertheimer - who you may or may not know as Elvis's personal photographer. It's a great combination of guests - Reedus, known for his dark and almost morbid style (more pictures here) and Wertheimer, known for taking probably the most intimate shots of The King. As always, it's a pretty fascinating episode.

Proof That ISO 640 Can Be Less Noisy Than ISO 100

A while back we posted a popular video series by Philip Bloom called New To DSLR Video? Here Are 8 Videos To Help. In one of the videos, Philip talks about how when shooting on Canon DSLRs (and presumably all DSLR cameras), certain ISO values actually may produce more noise than ISO values 1/3 and 2/3 stops HIGHER! Of course this made everyone a bit uneasy and sparked some interesting discussion. Well Andrew Schär made a video that demonstrates how ISO settings at multiples of 160 are actually better than the normal ones we use at intervals of 100. The question that immediately comes to my mind now is does this hold true for still shots as well or does it only show up when processing video? What do you guys think?
Night Photography: Finding The Extraordinary In The Ordinary

Scott Martin and Lance Keimig are not just your ordinary landscape photographers, they use light painting to make artistic landscape photographs. By leaving the shutter open and using a flash light they are able to get some really unique shots. They talk about everything that goes into making these photographs and how these shots are one of a kind. It also appears they are using gels on the flashlights to get some different colors throughout the shot. Scott and Martin also run workshops in Texas to teach their process.

Getting Personal Work From Paid Gigs

That title might sound a little bit backwards to most of you, but it is not. I know many professionals feel you shouldn't do any photography for free, especially after you have worked your tail off to get to a point where people will pay you to make images. However, even as a full time professional photographer, I actually do a lot of free work. But I do it only on my owns terms, and do turn down many offers.

How To Dodge And Burn A Beauty Shot In Photoshop

Remember Sean Armenta? He created this BTSV for our contest a few months ago. His previous video did a great job of showing us how he actually lit the shot but not much on retouching. Learn the other half of the story below in this top notch tutorial.

Which Camera Should I Buy? This One? No, That One! But Then Again...

I am regularly being asked which cameras people should buy. My reply is always the same: never ask a photographer that question; we always recommend what we own. How many Sony owners would recommend a Canon or Nikon? Here are seven hints to buying the perfect camera for you.

What Happened When I Broke My Leg While Filming Our Last Project

Last year, right around this time, Patrick and I booked a flight to Mexico to film Mike Kelley photographing the most expensive house ever sold in Playa Del Carmen. It certainly had the potential to be an incredible trip. The day before we were set to leave I decided to go out kiteboarding and I ended up breaking my tibia internally at my knee. For some reason I still went to Playa Del Carmen the next day.

Dodge & Burn: The Retro Camera T-Shirt Story

I love being a photographer. I also love showing the world my love of photography by wearing clothing that boldly states my profession. I've seen several t-shirt designs that have interested me, but none that catered to the old film cameras that I was brought up with. I was introduced to a new t-shirt brand a few weeks ago and my search was abruptly ended. Dodge & Burn, which hails out of New York City, develops designs based on historic cameras of yesteryear. I caught up with company founder, Ted Rybakowski, for a quick chat.

Finding a Place we are Comfortable Practicing our Photography

For about a year now I have been shooting with my DJI Phantom 3 and it has really been an eye opener for me. I have shot people, cars, landscapes, real estate, and so much more. Learning how to fly and shoot from an aerial perspective was probably the harder part of things, which is why I needed a place I could go to fly freely. Luckily, I went to school at Monmouth University in Long Branch, New Jersey which is only about a mile away from the beach.

My entire senior year of college, I would take my drone out in the morning, day or even dusk just...

Fstoppers Reviews the Hawkesmill Small Camera Bag

Back in June, I reviewed the Hawkesmill Jermyn Street Camera Bag, which I continue to love to this day. I have used it every day for the past nine months, easily swapping in panels for when I need to carry camera gear and removing them when I just need an awesome daily bag. I mentioned in that review that Hawkesmill would soon be releasing smaller versions of their luxury bags geared specifically towards mirrorless camera users. I’ve been using the smaller version from my first review for the past several months and am ready to kick off the new year with some of my thoughts regarding this bag.

Apple has confirmed the update will be released in 2019 and says it's working closely with professional customers on its design.
