If you've ever been told by a professional photographer to create series or personal projects, then this is the perfect reminder to do just that. Countless times have I started a series of images for a paid gig and wished I had more time, or less restriction to make it my own. Finn Beales is a commercial and travel photographer based in Wales creating the perfect side project to his commercial work called "72 Hours In...," showing a few days in each exotic location he shoots.
I discovered Finn and his work very early on Instagram, and was blown away by the travel and on-the-go lifestyle he had with each and every snap. Like many of us, we all want to travel but this article and series is more about the importance of creating something for yourself, something outside the commissioned work or paid gigs. This project explores 72 hours in each location he shot from a personal and professional standpoint. A solid blend of both work and pleasure if you will.
I hope to keep pushing personal projects myself as well as building a few more in the coming months on Instagram and on YouTube as I start my own personal vlog. Obviously the challenges are there, but the rewards are great in creating something different and personal to you. Hopefully this is a great reminder to keep pushing your work beyond simply a paycheck and into something much more creatively.
