Having shot the galactic core for 3 years I have begun to itch for something different and more challenging. Photographing DSO's with a telephoto and including the landscape was an idea I embraced last year and coming into this year I had many ideas for April when a lot of large DSO's are near the horizon. The Rho Ophiuchi complex is one of my favourite objects and I found this group of trees that complemented the photo perfectly. It would have been nice if the ground still had snow but I was lucky enough to have lines from the field lead to the trees and the sky beyond so I can't complain too much. I tracked the Rho Ophiuchi complex starting right in the spot it is pictured, by the time 16 frames had been taken it had moved quite a bit and dawn was beginning to wash out the nebulosity. I used the first hints of dawns glow to light my foreground, giving me a much cleaner file finished. Shot at 122mm
