Galiskari chapel

This is a dramatic image of the Chapel of Analipsi which stands at the edge of the tiny fishing harbour of Galiskari on the remote Greek island of Ikaria. It is located on the headland above a rocky outcrop that plunges into the Aegean.

Ikaria was a favourite island that we visited for a number of years and this image was taken on the first anniversary of our wedding on the island. Its emotional significance is therefore obvious! However, it's inclusion here is on its own merits.

The strong foreground leads the eye towards the chapel and the heavy sky provides some balance to the overall composition. The salt-encrusted rocks are in sharp focus and the freshly painted chapel emerges quietly from the surrounding trees.
