UMotif Number 1, Again.

Bradley Wharf in Rockport MA

In 1840, this fishing shack symbolized the beginning of what represented New England maritime life during the Northeastern Blizzard of 1978. It destroyed this building and many others in Massachusetts, and almost all of the Atlantic Ocean New England / New York felt its shoreline destruction. A replica was immediately rebuilt.

I believe it was 1979 that we first saw this quant building, except it was finished but not painted the familiar red paint, which would appear weather-beaten even when new. While eating breakfast across from Motif Number 1 (now the Rockport Yacht Club), I asked why the building was covered in new lumber in its present shape. People from the table next to us told the story of the Blizzard of 1978.

I noticed a large glass jar filled with money as we paid our check. Attached was a sign "Donations for Motif Number 1" paint job. We put in what money we could be a part of the complete restoration for such a noble cause.
