When our group arrived at this backcountry geyser basin we found this elk skull at the bottom of a hot spring. This become my main photographic subject for our stay.
This particular hot spring builds a thin layer of travertine on one side. Animals preserve this a solid ground wonder up the water’s edge for a drink and splash! ... soup... .
Went back the following year and the skull had dissolved almost beyond recognition, if I didn’t know where it was I wouldn’t have given the pool a second glance.
