Recently, for a wedding I was hired to shoot, the couple and I proceeded, after the ceremony, to get some images of just the two of them. As usual for most weddings, time was an issue, but luckily, the timing and location of the ceremony were optimal for pictures around the main house and gardens. After shooting the formal wedding party shots, trying to buy some time for the sun to set a bit, we finished up at the perfect time for shots with the Bride and Groom. We proceeded to go to the main house at the Biltmore Estate, and shot a few around there, working our way over to the south side, by the Italian Gardens. Our last location was on the side of the house, at the top of the stairs, overlooking the mountains in the distance. I shot quite a few different looks, including some silhouettes, some slightly overexposed shots, all of which came out great, but this one was my absolutely favorite.
With such a dramatic lighting situation, I had to underexpose the image to keep the sky from blowing out and, thankfully the Canon RAW files can take some pushing and pulling to pull out some detail in the shadows of the couple. Other than that, only minor adjustments were done in Lightroom for color correction, etc.
The perfect spot, the perfect time, and the perfect couple make for amazing pictures! They were totally up for anything with complete trust in my work, which definitely helps to get some truly great images.
