Meet Prynt, a Smartphone Case That Packs Instant Printing

Prynt, a startup company based in Paris, is working on a unique smartphone case that houses a built-in photo printer. Not only will you be able to pass around your snaps in physical form, but the Polaroid-type prints will also support augmented reality video playback through their app. Launching on Kickstarter soon, will the Prynt case makes prints cool again?

The prototype version of the Prynt case is able to connect to an iPhone or Android device via Bluetooth. Production models will also add direct physical connectors which will cut the print time down to around 30 seconds, and they will hold 10–30 sheets of paper. The printer works by heating the loaded paper, which comes infused with ink. The Prynt team plans to bring its case to Kickstarter early in the new year, initially selling it for $99.

In addition to having a party-friendly photo printer on the go, the Prynt camera app takes things even further by integrating augmented reality video. Photos taken inside the app will also record a short video at the time of the snap. That video gets stored in the cloud, and can be played back by holding the physical print in front of the smartphone’s camera. It’s incredible to watch, and may just be the feature that heralds this product’s popularity.

Awesome idea!

love it. wonder if you can print your pic on someone else's printer if your standing net to them since it's wifi/bluetooth ? love that the ink is built into the paper, ink is so expensive.
