How Good Is This Affordable 'Cookie' Lens?

Venus Optics is known for making some of the most unique lenses on the market today. Their 10mm f/4 Cookie lens takes the classic pancake design and turns it into a very wide focal length, making it an intriguing option for any photographer looking for a portable (and affordable) walkaround option for things like hikes and travel photography. This great video review takes a look at the lens and the sort of performance and image quality you can expect from it in usage.

Coming to you from ZY Cheng, this excellent video review takes at the Venus Optics Laowa 10mm f/4 Cookie lens for APS-C cameras. At just an inch (25 mm) long and only 4.6 oz (130 g), the 10mm f/4 Cookie lens is ridiculously portable, and when paired with one of the many tiny APS-C options out there, it makes for an extremely mobile setup. With an equivalent focal length of 15mm or 16mm (depending on the mount) and a four-inch minimum focusing distance, it offers some unique creative opportunities. In addition, its five-blade aperture offers 10-point sun stars. Venus Optics also gave the lens four extra-low dispersion glass elements and two aspherical glass elements for reduced aberrations and distortion and improved sharpness. Perhaps the one drawback is the lack of autofocus, but considering the focal length and modest maximum aperture, manually focusing shouldn't be particularly demanding. Check out the video above for the full rundown.

Begging the question, "What's the difference between a pancake and a cookie?"

A cookie is much smaller than a pancake, and always lacks any sort of autofocus. Most even lack aperture rings. A cookie is around the size of a lens cap, and a pancake is a little bit bigger than a body cap
