A Review of the New Venus Optics Laowa 58mm f/2.8 2X Ultra-Macro APO Lens

Venus Optics is well known for making unique, interesting, and versatile lenses that offer capabilities that are not possible with other options. Their newest lens, the Laowa 58mm f/2.8 2X Ultra Macro APO, offers the promise of fantastic image quality in tandem with ultra-high levels of magnification, all at an affordable price. How does it perform? This great video review takes a look at what you can expect.

Coming to you from Dustin Abbott, this excellent video review takes a look at the new Venus Optics Laowa 58mm f/2.8 2X Ultra Macro APO lens. Designed for mirrorless cameras, the 58mm f/2.8 2x is available for Sony E, Canon R, Nikon Z, and L mount versions. With an APO design, this lens is specifically made for minimized chromatic aberration, and it certainly shows. In addition, it offers three extra-low dispersion (ED) elements and three Ultra-High Refractive Index elements for high levels of sharpness along with 13 aperture blades for particularly smooth bokeh. Furthermore, it weighs just 595 g (21 oz) and is 117 mm (4.6 inches) long, making it quite portable. The lens is manual focus only, but with the manual focus aids of modern mirrorless cameras, that is not as much of a problem as it might have been in the past. Look for the 58mm f/2.8 2x to be available soon for $499. Check out the video above for Abbott's full thoughts.
