A Review of the Voigtländer Nokton 35mm f/1.2 SE Lens

35mm lenses with wide maximum apertures are some of the most popular and versatile out there, suitable for a huge range of applications, from events coverage to portraits, astrophotography, and more. The Voigtländer Nokton 35mm f/1.2 SE is quite an interesting alternative to many mainstream options, and this excellent video review takes a look at the lens and the sort of performance and image quality you can expect from it in practice.

Coming to you from Christopher Frost, this great video review takes a look at the Voigtländer Nokton 35mm f/1.2 SE lens. With an f/1.2 maximum aperture, the 35mm f/1.2 offers particularly shallow depth of field and light-gathering capabilities for such a focal length. Along with that aperture, it comes with two aspherical elements for reduced distortion and increased clarity, a minimum focusing distance of 11.8 inches, clicked aperture, a 12-blade diaphragm for particularly smooth bokeh, and electric contacts for EXIF data. On the other hand, the lens lacks autofocus, so if you are shooting fast action, you might want to think twice, but with the focusing aids of modern mirrorless cameras, working with manual focus lenses is not as difficult as it used to be. Check out the video above for Frost's full thoughts on the lens.

I tested an old Voigtländer years ago for a GH5 and I was really impressed with the build and image quality BUT I really missed AF.

I’d seen another review of this lens that was just a portrait review and was comparing this lens to the Voigtlander 40mm f/1.2 . The 40 was softer and this one the one to get if you wanted the modern sharp look vs the 40 which was softer with less contrast for that old school look .
So as a portrait lens test there is a difference of opinion than a test done like this one .
I see value in both tests and reviews.
Thanks
