Missing street photography because of the lockdown and closed borders? This idea has got you covered and you don't even need to charge your camera or leave your desk!
As a street photographer myself who has already missed out on three planned trips abroad due to the lockdown, I know how frustrating it might be when you are not allowed to go out and pursue your love for street photography. While we are staying safe at home, there are ways you can still enjoy the process of looking for shots that capture the fleeting moments of humor and the multidimensional aspects of human nature that make street photography exciting and interesting to look at.
Madison Beach, a Brighton, United Kingdom, based documentary photographer, found herself in the same position and thought of a way to still enjoy street photography without needing to leave her flat. Using screenshots found on Google Street View, Beach put together a portfolio of street photography shots that were "taken" and edited without even leaving her home office.
Picking Alaska as her virtual destination, a place she would have loved to travel to if money was not an object, Beach chose to focus on three themes, namely, people, landscapes, and American culture or parts of culture that you don't see or experience in the United Kingdom. This method of capturing brief visual street stories is not always the easiest as you are very limited in the angles you can use, but it's still a fun way to pass the time while enjoying street photography in isolation.
