As a Wedding Photographer, I have tons of radio triggers. I started out with the PocketWizard Plus II, and then after having all of my gear stolen, I switched to the relatively inexpensive PocketWizard Plus X, so needless to say, I’m fairly entrenched in the Pocket Wizard Brand. When I preordered the Nikon D800 early last year, I purposely didn't order the battery grip for a few reasons. The first was that I didn't think I needed it, and the second was that the $450 price tag way way too steep, and seemed ridiculous for the product that I was getting. The first reason turned out to be dead wrong. Carrying my camera around for 8-10 hours a day as a wedding photographer meant that the joints in my right hand were always hurting. Maybe it was just because of how I held the camera, but either way, I realized I needed a battery grip to help balance the weight. But this meant I had to spend almost $500 right?

The Nikon 200mm f/2 VR II is one of those lenses you always read about, but short of running into a professional sporting event, an affluent amateur, or Ryan Brenizer you just don’t see them. They’re rare and they’re expensive, but besides the obvious lust factor of the lens, is it any good?

The Nikon 135mm f/2 DC is a bit of a gem in the portrait game but as the title might suggest, you might not have heard of this lens. This may be due to one of a few reasons: The primary being that it’s a reasonably old lens; it hasn’t been updated optically in its nearly 25 years in the Nikon lineup. Another being that even if you have heard of it, it’s probably because it has gotten a bad reputation as a “soft focus” lens due to its unique Defocus Control feature.

Plus three gorgeous Brazilian triplets. But that's not the point here.

Seriously though, I've seen a lot of crazy things done with the Red Epic, but I've never seen it shot without it's IR pass filter. The results are the definition of ethereal. The biggest shocker to me though was that none of these shots, which included a very complicated Handheld to Rope to Handheld shot that looked like a crane shot, were all done without any post-stabilization or complicated steadicam rigs. All of the shots were done using the Movi stabilization system.

The average tilt shift lens is will set you back nearly 2 thousand dollars so the option to have a tilt shift lens for under $1000 from Rokinon and Samyang definitely makes me take notice. This is an incredibly informative video from The Slanted Lens that details an excellent way of shooting outdoors and balancing strobes with natural light. Some of these tricks were things that I actually never considered such as stopping down the camera and upping the flash to see exactly where the light was falling outside. Now that I think about it, it's so simple that I should have been doing it from the start, but that's why I love these videos!

Nikon USA has just announced the a brand new super-tele zoom, as well as a slew of new compact cameras. These include the Nikon Coolpix A a DX format compact, the P330, S3500 and L320. Since the release of The Matrix over a decade ago, we've all seen the incredible "Bullet Time" segments done by many different people, including an incredible surfing video using the technique, but something I've never seen before is this technique used on something as large as a car. The Splice Boys, a team comprised of Richard Kendall and Tom Brandon created this massive camera moves using dozens of cameras all rigged to go off at specific intervals.

Jay P. Morgan of The Slanted Lens has released a video that gives us a detailed look at one of the most basic aspects of portrait photography, the single light portrait. It's a very basic technique, but it's incredibly versatile set up that can be used to create many different looks. In this video, Jay P. Morgan is using a Canon 1DC and shooting video from which he will pull stills. It's a different way of shooting than we might be used to, but the end results are can look a lot more natural than posed pictures as the model is given much greater freedom to move around.
