How to Capture Cinematic Drone Videos

So you’ve just bought a drone for Christmas, flew it for the first time only to realize that getting those beautiful aerial sequences to look cinematic wasn’t that easy. Don’t worry; it’s actually not so complicated. There are just a couple of things to know and combine to bring your clips to the next level. Be sure to watch this tutorial if you want to make the most out of your next time flying your drone.

Sawyer Hartman is a filmmaker, photographer, and vlogger. With videos that have been viewed over five million times on YouTube shot only with a drone, he probably must know a thing or two about these little flying toys and how to film with them. In the 10-minute long tutorial above, Hartman gives you all of his techniques to help you get better footage out of your drone and improve your drone skills. From how to use the remote controller more smoothly, to avoiding auto flight modes, or trying to use foreground elements to make stronger compositions, you’ll learn simple but yet powerful techniques.

If you think Hartman tips are not worth your time, be sure to check his work. Some of his video footage is just stunning.

Finally, some solid advice that is not just "Color grade to get a cinematic look".

Hard to see 2000 feet separation in that fog. I hate the FAA and DJI barriers in place.

Super useful !!

Before you take that drone outside and film, make sure you are licensed with your Part 107, and are insured!
