Yes that is the tip of the tongue of a nutria, if you ever wondered what it might look like. This is wild a Nutria, also know as Coypu. I captured this picture in a wildlife reserve area in south west Germany. He got extremely close and didn't seem to be bothered one bit by me. He actually came close to me on his own to start his cleaning routine. After about 5-6 min and a small nibble on some grass, the show was over and he swam back to his burrow. Even though this species is invasive to Europe and most of the rest of the World, it is still really nice to see such an unlikely animal in the wild and also this close.
