Title: Cheetah Hunt
I took this photo some years ago when I was first getting into photography. We were on safari and the camp we stayed at was loaning Canon EOS 7D cameras with 100-400 zoom lenses to their guests. I pretty much left the settings as provided and as our truck was speeding over the bumpy ground, trying to keep up with the cheetah hunt, I managed to grab this shot. Now that I have a better knowledge of photography, I am absolutely amazed I was able to get this picture at this tense and extraordinary moment when the gazelle, regrettably, decided to try to jump over the truck. The cheetah, so close to her prey and travelling at incredible speed, managed to veer to the right narrowly avoiding colliding with the rear of the vehicle.
Lucky to be in the right place at the right time and with a camera that was up to the occasion.
Camera: Canon EOS 7D
Lens: Canon EF 100-400L
Settings: f5.6; 1/1000 sec; ISO 500; Focal length 200mm (320mm full frame equiv)
P.S. The camp hosts asked to keep a copy to share with other camps and to poke fun at the two brave Masai Warriors cowering in the front seat!
