How far back is an old camera?

This photo was taken way back in 1981 or 1982 out in the Indian Ocean on a Canon AE-1. I had a Leica Telephoto lens that I had picked up in Singapore in 1980. Back then, don't even ask me what F/stop - ISO meant...I had a camera, bought film, liked certain film with decent ISO and shot photos. A lot were blurry, a few turned out, and I was happy with what I got.

While I was in the US Navy, I was onboard the USS White Plains AFS-4. We operated out in the Indian Ocean for months on end. While we were coming out of the Indian Ocean, we just cleared through the Malacca Straights heading towards the Philippines, there was a Typhoon heading towards us, this storm was big, as we were making way to the Philippines, a small boat was seen on the horizon. Normally, we would see these boats, they were Vietnamese Refugees escaping Vietnam on small motorized boats, the boats were overfilled with people. Normally they would run out of fuel, food, water. People got sick, some had bullet wounds that they received while escaping. This boat alongside us had roughly 180 people crammed onboard. They were adrift, no power, no water, no food for 1 week until we just happened to find them drifting. There were a total of 3 - 4 boats out drifting. We picked up every last individual on these boats and escorted them to safety in the Philippines.

This photo was cleaned up a bit, not much using Lightroom Classic.

Today, I started with a Canon 80D, Tamron 70-200 mm lens, 2x doubler. I have upgraded to a Canon R5, Canon 24-105 mm lens, and a Canon 200-800 mm lens.
