This portrait of a young Somali girl was shot with a Nikon F3 with wide angle lens on Kodachrome. She and other girls were watching U.S. Navy SeaBees make improvements to her school grounds during Operation Restore Hope in 1993.
The slide was scanned and I cropped out girls on either side of her in Adobe Lightroom to make this portrait.
I was deployed to Somalia as a Navy Photojournalist to document all aspects of the operation from Mogadishu to the interior of the country. I shot primarily Kodachrome and Ektachrome film. Additionally I used a Kodak DCS 200 digital camera which was based on the Nikon 8008. Each evening we would transmit digital images back to the Pentagon for press release.
In my retirement I shoot with Nikon Z9 bodies and an assortment of Z lenses.

The crop might be a little too tight, but overall I love this. There is a story in those eyes.
I think I agree. I'd like to see the un-cropped version.
