I was visiting an incospicuous Satyanārāyaṇa shrine in the holy town of Dwarka (one of the four seats of the Sanskrit speaking Jagadgurus (“Masters of the World”) at the four corners of India) when the priest in charge invited me to take pictures of his family, including his wife, her who must have been his daughter-in-law, and his two grandchildren. I complied, but what attracted me most was the radiant countenance the mother wore while holding up his little son to the camera. In her boundless complacency was all the millenary importance traditional India attaches to a male son.
The photo was shot in natural light at ISO 125 with a Nikon D7000, 1/30 at f4.2 with a focal length of 48mm (35mm equiv.). Post-processed in Lightroom, Photoshop and Topaz.
