I had never done portrait photo's before, just my family photo's. so a local photographer started showing me the ropes. The image was taken at Bertram Creek Regional Park, just a local park here. I was just kneeling on the path when i took the photo which gave me a new appreciation for the effort needed to take portraits. First hiking up the path to find the right location, setup lighting find the composition then take multiple shots fine tuning the lights, poses and things... its' a lot of work. The only editing was done in Lightroom, nothing major, no masks or anything. There were a lot of challenges as i had never used off camera flash before so learning placement of the lighting and working that into the composition with natural lighting had a steep learning curve. At the time i was just using my first DSLR a D5100 and a kit 18 - 200mm lens. After this shoot i did upgrade to a D500, just having a second body on hand has made photo shoots a lot easier as i no longer need to switch lenes.
