The lighting seems dead in this photo. Would it not make sense to have had the young lady facing the window in order to get more light on her face? If it were too bright, having her stand further away from the window, or placing some sort of diffuser over the window, would have solved that problem.
I took that photo about 13 years ago, have learn much since then and would have done things much differently, including using a flash and or having her face into the window and adjusting my settings differently.. I dont disagree with you though, just starting now to really get into portrait and people photography.
