My friend Felipe was gracious and kind enough to allow me to photograph him on a cool spring day last year. As you can see, he is quite a photogenic type of character and loves getting into the role that might be designated for the shoot. He is an excellent guitar instructor here locally and stays busy all the time, so spending time with me for this capture was quite a win for me. The oiled hat and the scarf were props that I provided - for effect - which qualifies him even further. Also, his mesmerizing gray eyes tend to pull you in,contributing further to the mystery. I used my Canon R5 with an RF 24-70mm lens.

His eyes don't pull the viewer into the image; they make the viewer wonder what he's looking at. Direct eye contact would have been a better option, as well as better lighting to create some level of contrast on his face.

If you draw an imaginary line down the center of his face, you'll see that his nose is pointed to the right of the frame and his eyes are looking left. This draws the viewer's attention to the gray background instead of to the subject. The scarf is also so vivid, that it also draws the viewer's attention away from the subject's face, which should be the main focus.

The hat and jacket are cool, and he does have the potential to be a good subject for a portrait, but a darker scarf would have really made his eyes stand out more; especially if they were looking directly at the camera.

The vignetting around the frame is also pretty obvious. It doesn't need to be so pronounced.
