A few things that might help next time...
When your subject is wearing glasses, have them tilt their head down or to one side or another to eliminate the distracting reflections in their glasses.
Also, if you want to take the additional step to make a better picture, have someone hold something with a white surface to the side opposite the window which will bounce light back into the dark side of the face. Even one of those car shades with a reflective silver surface that you might have in the dashboard of your car would help. Balancing the light in an informal picture such as this is generally an improvement.
Lastly... always keep your eye on things in the background. Ask yourself before clicking the shutter whether they're good for the picture or not. In this case, the pictures in the upper left might be good; the bright light over the kitchen stove not so much.
