Echoes of Loss

Captured during a powerful pole performance, this image features Lou Lou’s heartfelt tribute in remembrance of a loved one, following the recent loss of a family member. Her piece conveyed a poignant moment of reflection, honouring personal grief while embodying the resilience found through artistic expression in the face of sorrow. Taken during a live show, the low and ever-changing stage lighting presented a real challenge, but I used my Canon R6 paired with a Tamron 24-70mm lens to capture the emotion and intimacy of the moment as faithfully as possible. In the end, I felt that converting the image to black and white made it more heartfelt—it stripped away the distractions of light and colour, allowing the focus to remain solely on her and the raw emotion she conveyed.
