This image was retouched in Adobe Lightroom with a focus on creating a dark, moody aesthetic. I began with a preset to establish the overall tone, then enhanced the hair texture to add depth and movement. I finished with a cinematic preset to give the final image a dramatic, editorial feel. During the shoot, a fan was used to create dynamic motion in the hair, bringing the image to life.
The original concept came from Trish Dool, a freelance hairstylist who envisioned this project as a creative statement to showcase the talent we have here in Wichita, Kansas—hoping to catch the eye of a company in Italy. Our model, Mariyah, is a 17-year-old from a small Kansas town who had never experienced a shoot like this before. Watching her realize her beauty throughout the process was one of the most rewarding parts of the project.
Trish handcrafted the wardrobe from cardboard boxes and scrap paper—an incredible display of creativity and resourcefulness. The shoot was a true collaboration, requiring time, planning, and dedication. We were all proud of what we were able to create together.
