This photograph was taken with a Nikon Z6III and a 35mm lens, using only the ambient light available. As a birth photographer, I’m constantly working with the beautiful unpredictability of birth—you never know what time of day a baby will arrive, what the lighting will be like, or how the space will feel. That unpredictability is part of what makes birth photography so challenging—and so rewarding.
This particular moment was captured just after the birth, in the quiet, sacred early hours of the night. The birth center was filled with warm-toned lighting, creating an incredibly intimate atmosphere. During post-processing in Lightroom, I worked carefully to honor the true tones of the moment while gently toning down some of the stronger orange and yellow hues, allowing the raw emotion of the scene to shine through.
