2.19 - "Needs Work"

This shoot was inspired by the photography work of Frank Meadow Sutcliffe in the late 1800s. He was best known for his documentation of life in Victorian Whitby, England, and I was completely enamored by the baskets and layers of clothes worn by the women workers in his photographs. I was able to collect a number of nearly appropriate baskets in the lead up to the shoot, but had to make my own fishing weir out of vines and branches from my own garden. My stylist layered a mix of modern and vintage clothes with a nod to the Victorian fishing community, and we collected clam shells and seaweed. This shot was taken on a completely clear, October afternoon and the sun was in just the perfect angle- it needed no modifier at all and I left my reflector in my trunk. I love the long shadows from the models, who we made walk back and forth over and over again until they got so distracted they started tripping over the baskets. Post processing really only involved removing a few pieces of garbage from the rocks and decreasing saturation a little bit, otherwise this is what it looked like straight out of camera.
