I finally managed to capture the Milky Way over Toowoon Bay in the central coast over Easter this year. I had to read the charts to make sure the Milky Way was visible in the sky and get lucky with clear skies at night, whilst also getting far away enough outside of Sydney to minimize light pollution.
This was shot on a Fujifilm X-S20 with the Samyang 12 mm f2.0. A series of 16 photographs was taken using a fast wide angle lens at f2.0, 15 seconds, ISO 1250 and stacked using the specialised software Sequator to reduce light pollution and noise to produce a cleaner final image. Final post processing was done with Adobe Camera Raw to darken the skies and emphasize the dust lanes of the Milky Way.
This image would have been much more challenging to capture in the past without modern sensors with improved low light performance to and modern post processing techniques to reduce noise.
And you didn't even need a satellite. Very good.
