This image of pears and herbs was a learning exercise. I wanted to learn how to achieve a "painterly" look in the vein of Old Masters. This meant learning about chiaroscuro lighting as well as more about diffusion and positioning of the light source. The challenge was to get soft yet well-defined shadows while maintaining an overall soft look. This image was taken with a Nikon D7500 using the kit prime 50 mm lens (f11, 1/400th, ISO 100). One soft box (square) was positioned to the right. A small white bounce card was used in the front. The soft box was positioned as close to the subject as possible with a 1/4 stop sheet of diffusions paper in front of the soft box. Significant post processing was done with Capture One and Affinity Photo to get the "aged" look and just a bit if adjustment layers for a tine amount of blur painted into some areas. This was a fun and interesting learning experience.

This is really beautiful, such a warm, homey quality. I'd like to try something like this. Thank you!

Really beautiful shot. Managed to make rather everyday pears interesting and worth stopping to look closer at. Beautiful lighting, styling, and composition.
