This project was part of gallery show in which writers and artists created works inspired from one another. This photo was based on a writer's work that described a road trip through the rural Midwest where they saw goldenrod lining the road, fields of corn, apple orchards, and grazing cattle. I did not want to do something so on the nose as recreating the scene. It was also impossible given the time of year I had to work in. So I created this compilation to mimic a picnic that comprised elements inspired from the written work. It was a fun but challenging exercise.

Not a composite. Real ingredients. Everything was lit and shot all together except for some of the flowers. Lit from the side using window light and focus-stacked. The most difficult part was getting the wrinkles out of the gingham table cloth in the background. I used gen-fill to expand the table cloth around edges where needed and smooth out some wrinkles.

And yes, I did bake that apple pie myself. Titled 'Farm to Table'.
