Scottish National Museum Chiaroscuro. Handheld, Z8 + 24-200/4-6.3 at 24mm. It's Scotland! So most of my versions of this scene are lit with bright diffuse cloud cover filling the museum's great hall with light. By contrast this image exploits bright sunlight that casts a sharp-edged pool of light on the floor of the comparatively dark room reproducing the pattern of the skylight. The beautiful geometry of the white cage of cast iron dominates against the dark naves in a way it fails to so when everything is bright.
