I’ve been a full-time commercial photographer for over a decade now. But when I got my first DSLR back in 2008 (Nikon D80) I shot this image with a pretty bad kit lens (Nikkor 28-80, I believe) and I had no clue what I was doing. But I was so excited about this image. I actually emailed it to a photographer in the fly fishing industry who I really admired to get a critique of it and his response was asking if he could secure rights to publish it as the cover of a magazine he and a friend had just started to publish (Catch Magazine, which is still around and is beautiful). And with that, I was addicted.
