There is no true black Tulips in nature... they are velvety shade of maroon, burgundy or egg plant colors. This variety (queen of the night) is apparently the most cultivated black tulips. They symbolize power, strength and elegance. The photo was taken in my front garden with a dark blue cloth for background. I was looking for a "portrait" of the a single bloom hence the square crop and the flower in the center.
