Whether you are new to photography, an experienced pro, or somewhere in between, we start configuring our cameras a certain way and then stop once we think we have it perfected. This can cause a photographer to miss some very helpful settings that can make them more efficient in the field.
Once we get a camera set up in a particular way—focus modes set, display options modified, custom buttons or menus adjusted just right—we tend to forget about revisiting that setup to see if it is still optimal. As our skill level increases, revisiting your menu and camera settings should be something you review.
In this video, Simon d'Entremont reviews a list of simple camera settings that might help make you more efficient with your camera in the field. Maybe you didn’t know about these settings or what they were, or maybe you didn’t know you could configure them to be more easily accessible in the camera.
d'Entremont reviews features that can help with focusing, image stabilization, exposure, and more as he shows configuration modifications you can make. He does not limit this to one specific camera system either, offering advice on many camera brands and what they call these settings. d'Entremont either shows you how to do it or gives you the right terminology to find it if your menu varies slightly.
I found the video helpful and a good reminder that I should break out of some of the routines of my own camera configuration. Now, I am off to check a few of my camera settings and make some adjustments!
Meh
Knew all of them, eh?
