The Bereaved

Hey All,

This is my first post in this group, however I have been working at compositing and retouching for a few years now. I'd love to hear any comments or constructive criticism of my work thus far. I have yet to find a quick path way to creating work. This image was the product of casually gathering assets and props, photographing and retouching throughout the course of 3 months, from October to December last year.

Here it is...

Aside from the technical aspects, I'd be interested to see what sort of story you get from this image.

Thanks everyone!
Ed

Hi Edward!

Thanks for posting! I think you definitely captured the sombre mood and your processing is fantastic, however I find my eye being drawn to the large flower arrangement in the center of the image.

It looks like the young man has recently lost his wife, or love (photo in the bottom left corner) and he sits in her favorite room mourning while his loyal dog stands in support, just an arms length away but not smothering his human.

Just my two cents :)

Hi Crystal,

Thanks for your reply! That is absolutely what I was trying to convey. I'm glad it is coming through. Though I had no choice in whether the flowers were in the scene (it was in a museum/house, and it was part of the sitting room setup/display), I decided to use the location with the flowers because it seemed like an extension of the main characters grief. They seemed like an example of the only extravagance left to him now that his wife is gone.

Thanks very much for your input, I appreciate it!

Edward

Fantastic job working with what you had :) You're very welcome.
