I've been a big horror fan for years. I blame my mum. She showed me messed up stuff when I was a kid. :-) So, I fancied doing a horror themed shoot.
I have an amazing arrangement with a theatrical costume hire company who allow me to use their costumes, in exchange for the right to use my images on their websites etc. So, I headed there one lunch time and had a browse. I soon stumbled upon some creepy, Victorian style dresses that gave me the idea to do a Gothic inspired photo shoot.
In the movie, Insidious, there is a Woman in Black which is played by a male actor. It adds to the scary appearance. So I decided to cast a model with unusual features. Someone tall, or skinny. Just something unusual. I used PurplePort and found someone with the perfect look for what I wanted.
She came along for a costume tryout and all looked good. We arranged a time and place to do the shoot, and I hoped for an overcast day. And it all worked out.
We shot at a local abandoned cemetery and I was concerned that some passerby may not see me but only the model and think they saw a ghost! :-)
I wanted the photos to have a vintage look and knew from the outset that it would be a black and white or sepia toned, so I aged them in Photoshop.
All in all, I'm happy with how the shoot and the images turned out. Not only does the model now have new photos for her portfolio, the costume hire company, www.marigoldcostumes.co.uk, also has new photos.
Here's the Behind the Scenes video from the shoot:
