Swirls in Sandstone, Southern Nevada
I was out in the desert in southern Nevada. You know, that place where they turn the thermostat up to 140 degrees starting in about mid May, and the furnace stays on until at least mid October. So it's nasty, deadly hot. People die here if they don't bring water, and that's on a mild day. The rest of the year the desert just bakes your brains! I was driving from my home to California to visit my mom over Mother's Day and amazingly, it was fairly tame..., a high in the mid 80's so I decided to explore up this little wash I knew about when I came to this amazing structure. I had approached from the down drainage side, which we're looking into, so it took some creative walking to get to this spot without leaving size 10 1/2 markers on the soft sand. I had never seen this exact color of sandstone until this time, and it was absolutely shades of violet. Very beautiful, and I do not like that particular color. I used a Toyo 45A camera, 65mm Sinaron lens with a #61 Dark Green filter. Tripod legs had to be splayed out in a very awkward configuration to get the camera suspended enough to get the image I wanted.

Nice lines, Nathan. The b&w is lovely, and I would love to see the colors as well; although, I suppose the color would distract from the lines. Great composition!
Thank you. I don't work in color much. Sometimes, but not often unless the subject is very fleeting or moving rapidly.
