August Abstract, Part 2: Glass

These photos were taken at 35mm and using an 11mm and 18mm extension tubes. The subject is a colored glass paperweight that contains a pattern of air bubbles within the glass. See comments for setup.

Photo 1: is a straight on shot that show the bubbles near and from the other side of the glass.

Photo 2 and 3: for these photos and the next I chose to get "creative". The glass paperweight has a flat bottom, so I set the camera looking directly up and placed a piece of 11"x14" glass from a picture frame on top of the lens (There was enough clearance so nothing wat touching the front lens element). Next, I placed the paperweight on the glass.

I used the flip out screen in live view to move the subject around and experimented with shining a light on the paperweight to find an interesting composition.

No glass was broken in this photoshoot.

Thanks for sharing your experiment and showing your setup Dean. Your creative thinking is inspiring.

I find that images providing a sense of movement more thought provoking, and especially like #2 (would never guess without your explanation).

I love these, Dean. Good thinking. Also, as always I enjoyed reading through the process. My favorite ones are #1 & #3. Nice work.
