Diamond Rocks, Alabama Hills, California

I was camping in the Alabama Hills after a long days drive. I had pulled into a camping spot after dark, rolled out my sleeping bag and drifted off while watching the sky with diamonds set against the velvety softness of the dark. When I woke the next morning I was facing these rocks in the semi darkness of a desert sunrise. Realizing what would happen in a few minutes I quickly set up my 4x5 camera, attached what I thought would be an appropriate lens, got it focused, took a meter reading and set the lens. Loading the camera with film, I knew I had little time. About that time the sun crept over the horizon to the east, I made my exposure, did a couple more images there and got breakfast. Perfect start to a sensational day.
Toyo 45A camera, 150mm Sinaron lens, #61 Green filter and Kodak T-Max 100 film rated at ASA 50.

Nice shot, Nathan. I can't help but see the inside of a monster's mouth with layers of teeth. Lol. Very nicely composed foreground, midground, and background all working perfectly together!

Imagination can run wild here. There are others that I cannot show here that appear to be obscene, but are only rock structures.

You took the photo at the perfect time of day: rocks bright while the background appears to be dark in the shadow. Congratulations!

Thank you. Good things happen when you put yourself in the right place at the right time.
