Light on Sandstone
Often when I am hiking or backpacking I will plan on getting at least one, and sometimes two or three, memorable images per day. Ansel Adams once said that a very good photographer, working very hard might be able to create 12 really good photographs in a years time. Of course, things have radically changed since then, we have much better films, though I think our paper isn't as good.
I had planned on spending the better part of a day exploring this area in Southern Nevada near Lake Mead, so I set out to hike for the day at a little before sunrise. I walked around a corner in the canyon I was in just after sunrise, this image almost shouted at me to stop and make a photograph of it... so I did, walked back to trailhead and took a nap! It has, at times, brought different ideas to my mind, mostly types of animals - and you can use your imagination to unfurl its mysteries. I used a Toyo 45A camera with a 150mm Sinaron Lens with a #61 Dark Green filter. The film was Kodak T-Max 100 rated at ASA 50.

Lots of stories to see in this image. It definitely "shouts" to be taken, and you composed it wonderfully. Nice shot - and post.
Nice work Nathan. Once again you have captured a wonderful depth of tone and texture. This is one of those images that yields more mystery the longer you look at it.
Thank you,
